"The work of this unique community of artists is remarkable not only for it's quality, but for the way for which it is made without any commercial materials. The potters use neither potter's wheel nor kiln, but form the jars by the pinch method and firing them in the open air using dried cow chips for fuel. they dig and prepare their own clay, compound their own pigments from local minerals, and even make their own paint brushes- from hair cut from the heads of their children. In painting their pieces before firing, they do not copy from the prehistoric Casas Grandes ware that they draw their inspiration. The source of inspiration is always clear, but the interpretation is creative and their own. The design of each jar is unique. Nor do the painters plan their designs ahead of time. They simply let them evolve under the brush while painting."
